Full Eye Exams
Our comprehensive eye health services include eye exams that assess visual acuity, color vision, and eye muscle function, among other tests. We also provide retinal imaging to detect any underlying eye diseases, which is especially important for monitoring conditions like childhood Myopia. Primarily, we offer myopia control treatments to help manage and reduce the progression of myopia in young patients.
What is Myopia?
Myopia (short-sightedness) is a vision condition where distant objects appear blurry while near objects remain clear. This condition, particularly prevalent in children, occurs when the eye grows too long or the cornea is too curved, causing light to focus in front of the retina. Eye health services often emphasize the importance of early detection and myopia control treatments to manage this issue effectively.
Why is myopia increasing in children?
Rates of myopia, particularly among children, have increased worldwide due to a combination of genetics, increased screen time, and reduced time outdoors. This trend highlights the importance of eye health services and the need for effective myopia control treatments.
Why is controlling myopia important?
The progression of children myopia can significantly increase the risk of serious eye conditions later in life, including: retinal detachment, glaucoma, myopic macular degeneration, and cataracts. To mitigate these risks, it's essential to seek eye health services and consider myopia control treatments.
Myopia Management Treatments
Myopia management refers to evidence-based treatments, known as myopia control treatments, designed to slow the progression of short-sightedness in children and young adults. These treatments do not cure Myopia but can significantly reduce how quickly it worsens.
What treatments are available?
Common myopia control treatments for children myopia include: specialized myopia control spectacle lenses, soft myopia control contact lenses, orthokeratology (overnight vision-shaping lenses), low-dose atropine eye drops, and repeated low-level red-light therapy.
We will recommend the most suitable myopia control treatments for you or your child based on age, prescription, eye health, and lifestyle, ensuring that all our options meet your needs.
How effective are myopia control treatments?
Clinical studies show that many myopia control treatments can significantly slow the progression of children myopia by 40–70% on average, depending on the specific treatment and patient compliance, highlighting the importance of tailored care.
At what age should myopia management start?
Myopia management is most effective for childhood Myopia when started as early as possible after detection, typically between the ages of 6 and 12 years old, using various myopia control treatments.
